Another reminder...

of how quickly life can change. Last night I got a call from my sister Julie who is an ER nurse. My best friend from my growing up years, Leah, had come into her Emergency Room. She and her husband had been in a car accident. Leah was going to be fine, she had a few broken bones and some good bruises, but her husband Jeff had died on the scene of the wreck. I went to see her at the hospital today, the same hospital that my friend Amber stayed at while in and recovering from her coma. In one instant her whole life changed. Her plans for her life with her husband, completely ripped away. How fragile life is! It reminded me again, of how important our relationships with our families are. When all is said and done, these relationships are all that we have. When I talked to her dad, Bud, he said, "This is something that happens to other people." Isn't it though? We never think these kinds of tragedies will happen to us, only to someone else. Then tragedy strikes shockingly close to home. She is lucky that she and her husband loved each other so much and that she has so many good memories with him. How many of us can say the same? How well do we treat our spouses? Our children? Our families? I think we can all do a little better, myself included. Leah, I am praying for you, praying that you will be able to feel some comfort and peace. And I am hoping that I can be a good friend to you in your time of trial. I love you.

How grateful I am for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! The knowledge I have of the plan of salvation. To know that life doesn't end here and that I will still be able to be with my family when this part of my journey is over. I am grateful for a Savior who weeps when I weep and rejoices when I rejoice! I am grateful for the comfort and strength I can find in Him when I am at my lowest. All I have to do is ask. He is there. I have never seen Him, but I know that He is there because I feel Him, like I feel the warm sun on my face and the wind in my hair. And how I love Him!

I am so sad for you friend! Life is so fragile and I myself am guilty of taking advantage of those around me... It is true that we never know what is going to happen to our families. I will keep your friend Leah in my prayers!

I will be praying for her as well.

Karin, it was a shocking and heartbreaking thing. Amazing that Julie was right there to support Leah and her family through this horrible situation. We love you, we pray for you, and know that God will give you wisdom to be her friend during this challenging time. Love you, MOM.
