Randomness

Sleepy, sleepy Indie...I swear he does take a nap in his crib most days.

This is the progress of Annicka's nose getting better. I gave myself a black eye when I was about her age and I remember my dad taking me into the bathroom every morning to look in the mirror to see what colors my eye was that morning. So I thought it would be fun to document the changes in her eye too.

And my sweet Park.

Another reminder...

of how quickly life can change. Last night I got a call from my sister Julie who is an ER nurse. My best friend from my growing up years, Leah, had come into her Emergency Room. She and her husband had been in a car accident. Leah was going to be fine, she had a few broken bones and some good bruises, but her husband Jeff had died on the scene of the wreck. I went to see her at the hospital today, the same hospital that my friend Amber stayed at while in and recovering from her coma. In one instant her whole life changed. Her plans for her life with her husband, completely ripped away. How fragile life is! It reminded me again, of how important our relationships with our families are. When all is said and done, these relationships are all that we have. When I talked to her dad, Bud, he said, "This is something that happens to other people." Isn't it though? We never think these kinds of tragedies will happen to us, only to someone else. Then tragedy strikes shockingly close to home. She is lucky that she and her husband loved each other so much and that she has so many good memories with him. How many of us can say the same? How well do we treat our spouses? Our children? Our families? I think we can all do a little better, myself included. Leah, I am praying for you, praying that you will be able to feel some comfort and peace. And I am hoping that I can be a good friend to you in your time of trial. I love you.

How grateful I am for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! The knowledge I have of the plan of salvation. To know that life doesn't end here and that I will still be able to be with my family when this part of my journey is over. I am grateful for a Savior who weeps when I weep and rejoices when I rejoice! I am grateful for the comfort and strength I can find in Him when I am at my lowest. All I have to do is ask. He is there. I have never seen Him, but I know that He is there because I feel Him, like I feel the warm sun on my face and the wind in my hair. And how I love Him!

Really...Really?

I don't know what it is with boys, but really? This? Let me preface this story...in our house (at least while Scott is not home) we have an open door policy for the bathroom. I just find it easier, Park still needs his bum wiped and I can't hear him yelling with the door closed and I have Indie running amuck if I don't leave the door open for me. On with the story...so Park generally sits down to pee still and this time apparently he had to go so bad that he didn't bother to turn on the light. His friend Jared also decided that he needed to relieve himself at the same time. Nevermind that we now have THREE bathrooms in this house, apparently the only one they are allowed to use is the one in the hall upstairs. New rule I never knew about. So what happens? Park goes in and sits down...Jared comes in right after him and decides he'll try and pee in the toilet too...with the light off! The result? I hear Park yelling, "MOM! Jared peed on me!" I go in and sure enough, Park's back (including his shirt), the back of the toilet and the floor, covered in pee. And Jared? No where to be found. It took me about five minutes to find him hiding in a closet, with an extremely guilty look on his face. I even tried going next door to see if he went home. My favorite part is that Jared tried to claim that he didn't know Park was there. I know the light was off, but really? You peed on his back, not down the front of him. You knew very well that Park was sitting on the toilet. Moral of the story? We need to change our open door policy and make sure that Park remembers to turn the light on next time.

Can you tell that I'm DYING for spring? Even if I can't see it outside yet, I'll be able to see it on my blog!

A few new sayings

So Park has picked up a few new sayings over the last few weeks: "How do you like them apples?" "See, I told you!" "Seriously?" and "See ya! Wouldn't want to beat ya!" Yeah, he says beat, not be. He comes up with the greatest times to say them too. For example, Scott was playing Zelda on the Wii (the kids really like to watch him play it) when he killed a bad guy and said, "Take that!" and Park says, "How do you like them apples?!?" What a funny kid!

Annicka vs. the Super-Ninja Slide

So, yesterday morning at 9:15 just about the time school starts I got a call from the school saying Annicka had fallen and bumped her nose. Her story is that she didn't know there was snow at the bottom of the slide and on the way down she went flying off and smashed her nose on the cement. That slide must have been super-ninja or something for her to have gone flying that far! I went and picked her up, her nose was really swollen and she was having a hard time breathing, I took her to the ER thinking she had broken it. Thankfully children are almost all cartilage still and her nose bone starts a lot higher than an adult's, so no broken bones! But she sure has a nice shiner!

Sledding

So yesterday Scott  had work off and Annicka didn't have school, so we decided to take the kids to do something fun! We went up American Fork Canyon to go sledding. By the end of it, though, it turned into one of those things where you wonder, "Why do we even try?" The first fifteen minutes went really well, Park even went down a couple of times. Annicka was enjoying herself, and Indie couldn't get enough. After the first few times, Park just wanted to watch, which we expected. Then Annicka got really cold, even though we'd tried to anticipate that by putting hotties in her gloves and bundling her like crazy. Once that girl gets cold, it's all over. We tried to stick it out a while longer. Soon Park had to go potty, but he wouldn't pee in the trees so Scott had to drive him down the road a ways. While we were waiting for Scott to get back I kept going down with Indie and Annicka started to have a melt down. She was literally laying in the snow crying. I gave her my gloves since hers were wet and that helped for about 30 seconds. I tried to get her to go again. She went and then started crying harder because "it went too fast!" even though she had gone that fast every time before. Then Annicka was dying to go home. Scott still wasn't back yet, but I decided we'd at least go to the parking lot at the top of the hill and wait for him. There were four sleds that we needed to take back and of course Indie was mad that we were leaving so he started tantrums while I was trying to carry him and three of the sleds back up, no easy feat. Annicka was too cold to carry the one sled I asked her to take and it was a fight the whole way up to get her to come and to keep Indie in my arms. Needless to say, by the end of it I was done. Thankfully Scott pulled up right as I got to the top. Well, we definitely made memories!
Look how excited Indie is!
Park sitting and watching.
The only reason Indie is crying in this picture was that we had stopped moving and he wanted to keep going.
This is Annicka, right at the beginning, while she was still happy.
Though I must admit, the view was AMAZING!
